Recreation

		Parks: Bessie Branham Park, Coan Park. Bessie Branham Park was recently renovated with new tennis/basketball courts, a ball field and playground as well as a $2 million recreational center that opened in 1998. The rec center has a gym, workout equipment and a state-of-the-art computer center with classes that are free to Atlanta residents.
		Charlie Yates Public Golf Course (with driving range) in East Lake (less than one mile from Kirkwood), which offers reduced greens fees to residents of the 30317 area.
		A new, state-of-the-art YMCA.
		Located on the PATH, a multi-use urban trail that is enormously popular with local cyclists, runners, walkers, and roller bladers.

Education

		Kirkwood is in the Toomer Elementary, Coan Middle, and Crim High School districts.
		Residents of 30317 are eligible to attend the new Charles R. Drew Charter School, an Edison Partnership school that focuses on reading and math; offers an extended day and extended school year; emphasizes technology; and promises a caring and committed staff of teachers.
		Kirkwood is very close to excellent private schools including Horizons, The Howard School, Padeia and several Montessori schools.

Other

		A new library opened in 1997, a branch of the Atlanta-Fulton Co. library system. Includes a Gates Learning Center with four PCs available to Kirkwood residents.
		On the MARTA East line (East Lake station).
		Kirkwood residents qualify for membership in the BOND Community Credit Union.
