Karnataka CM Yediyurappa approves Rs 10 cr for development of historic places in Kittur

On July 6, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa chaired the Kittur Development Authority meeting and approved a plan of action worth 10 crore. He approved the construction of a memorial for Rani Chennamma who fought against British rule.

“The development of Chennamma samadhi, the construction of the statue of Belavadi Mallamma and a billboard depicting life and history in Belavadi, the preservation of documents relating to Kittur province and other works have decided to be included in the action plan, ”said CM BS Yediyurappa’s office.

An amount of 10 crore has been allocated in the budget for the development of historic places in Kittur during the year 2021-2022. As part of this action plan, approval was given for the development of Chowki Matt Gadugge, a replica of the palace owned by Kittur province.

A total of 46 Kempegowda heritage sites identified in three circuits would be developed at a cost of 223 crore for the promotion of tourism in Karnataka. As part of this action plan, approval was given for the construction of the statue of Belavadi Mallama and a billboard describing the life and history of Belavadi, the preservation of documents relating to the province of Kittur and other works were decided to be included in the action plan.

CM’s office said instructions had been given to begin reconstruction of Chennamma Palace in consultation with the State Archaeological Department. While the first phase was undertaken at an estimated cost of 94 crores, CM Yediyurappa asked officials to complete the first phase of the Basaveshwara International Museum, on the life and works of the 12th century social reformer in Kudalasangama.

“The authorities have been urged to take measures to create resources for the management of memorials,” said the CM. The government led by CM Yediyurappa called on the authorities to promote tourism by developing forts, tanks and heritage places from the Kempegowda era. They were responsible for developing the historic places in order to encourage tourism. The Departments of Tourism, Forestry, Horticulture, Minor Irrigation, Religious Foundation, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Department of Public Works (PWD) were invited to work together to develop venues heritage sites in and around Bengaluru.
