AMARILLO, TX (KAMR / KCIT) – For approximately 40 years, the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum has held its Christmas Open Houses to provide High Plains dwellers with a way to celebrate the holidays and get out and enjoy the museum .
If you walked into the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum on Saturday, you encountered Christmas decorations and choirs from all over Amarillo filling the tune with Christmas music.
PPHM’s annual Christmas Open House gives back to the High Plains Food Bank by giving guests the chance to come to the museum for a dollar or a can.
Stephanie Price, director of marketing at the museum, said there are many ways to help the food bank, but said it was a small way for the museum to help.
“This is our way, as the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, of giving back and thanking the community for supporting their museum throughout the year. So it’s important for us to be part of the community, ”said Price.
Dr Cloyce Kuhnert, a voice teacher at WTAMU and music director from Texas who performed at Saturday’s event, said being able to perform at this event starts the Christmas season on the right track. note.
“This is just the beginning of the Christmas season for us and I really hope for everyone who will come and listen to us,” said Dr Kuhnert.
The museum offered a lot to the hundreds of guests who showed up, whether it was meeting Santa Claus, making Christmas decorations, or decorating cookies.
“We spent about three or four hours here today and had a great time,” added Mona Finchum who attended Saturday’s event with her children.
